Real Madrid general director Jorge Valdano has revealed the Spanish club have been in contract extension discussions with defender Pepe for quite some time.
Valdano is hopeful the 28-year-old will put pen to paper soon.
“The negotiations with Pepe are going well,” the director was reported as saying to Sky Sports. “He is an excellent person and one of the best central defenders in the world.
“It is true that we have been talking for some time, but I am confident that he will choose to stay on at Real Madrid.”
Pepe has been at the Blancos since 2007, making more than 100 appearances for the club.
