Wallidan, Samger, Steve Biko, Africell and even FA Cup and Super Cup winners Gamtel will all be looking for their first win when the Gambia First Division League season enters its Week Three stage this weekend.
After a 1-1 draw against Biko coming on the back of an opening defeat against Bakau United, the Wallidan side will take on Samger on Saturday at the Serrekunda East mini-stadium with both sides needing the maximum points to climb from the bottom table. On the same evening, sixth-placed Steve Biko will entertain eighth-placed Young Africans in what will be the latter’s second fixture after the postponement of their opening fixture against Armed Forces.
Bakau United, who won their opening two fixtures to open up a two-point lead at the top of the table with six points, will face Interior in the day’s final clash. Interior currently occupy sixth place in the standing after drawing their first two fixtures. On Sunday, bottom side Africell, who lost their opening two fixtures, will hope for a change of fate when take on Real de Banjul at the Serrekunda East mini-stadium, while second-placed Brikama United will entertain Armed Forces in what will be the Brikama side’s first away fixture at the Serrekunda West mini-stadium.
The day’s final fixture will see title holders Gambia Ports Authority heading for a revenge mission as they take on Gamtel at the Banjul mini-stadium. The Bonu Johnson tutored side lost 2-0 to Gamtel in the Super Cup final, albeit the telecommunication giants are yet to reproduce their Super Cup final performance in the league, having bagged only one point from their first two fixtures.
