Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has defended his number two Joe Jordan after the coach was handed a one-match-ban in the wake of his tussle with AC Milan‘s Gennaro Gattuso.
The Scotsman was confronted and headbutted by the midfielder at the end of Spurs’ first-leg win over the Italian side in the last 16 of the Champions League.
The Italian international was handed a four-match-ban as a concequence of his antics, but now Spurs’ assistant manager has been sanctioned for his part in the post-match fracas – a decision that has confused and frustrated Redknapp.
“It’s not fair,” he said. “Joe did absolutely nothing wrong except have somebody give him a headbutt, I just don’t understand what the man is supposed to have done wrong.
“I was there with him and he’s a great guy, quiet man, and theres no way that he did anything that wrong or said anything wrong, so I think its totally unfair, but lets see what happens, if there is an appeal process I’m sure the club would look to do that.”
Tottenham have been handed a tough draw for the competition’s quarter-finals after being paired with Spanish giants Real Madrid.
