Superintendent Kwasi Ofori, Director of Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service, has vehemently debunked media reports that suggested that he has been relieved of his current position.
Speaking to Myjoyonline.com in his office at the Police Headquarters in Accra, he stressed: “I am at post, I am working with my subordinates and senior ones. Officially, no one has informed me of my transfer.”
Supt. Ofori intimated that having served in various capacities and in different regions, he is prepared to discharge his duties effectively wherever he will find himself within the service.
“As a humble public servant, I am prepared to serve anywhere and any place in the country faithfully to the best of my ability.”
It has been alleged that there are text messages circulating around that the Director of Public Affairs Directorate is heading to the north to continue his service there, but Supt. Ofori told Myjoyonline.com he was yet to receive or sight any of such text messages.
However, Supt. Kwasi Ofori reiterated: “I am not indispensable and I can serve anywhere.”
Meanwhile, reliable information Myjoyonline.com picked at the corridors of the police headquarters point to the fact that there is power struggle within the service and this might be one of the moves being adopted by his detractors to get him out of office.
A police officer who pleaded anonymity blamed the media for failing to crosscheck the authenticity of such story before going public.
“The man is always with you people, you could have just called him to confirm. Now you see the confusion the media have brought; we are even tired of the meetings and calls following these false media reports,” the highly placed source said without confirming or denying whether the man at the centre will be going.
In another development, the police are appealing to the public to assist with information on the whereabouts of a two-and-half-year old Kwabena Ageyi-Henaku who was picked up from school by his family’s taxi driver, but has since not been seen.
When Myjoyonline.com got to his office, Mr Ofori and his team were busily strategizing on how to find the missing boy who is a pupil of the Ecole Francaise Adkhel at the Airport Residential Area.
The boy speaks English, French and Twi.
