Today — URA will cut the gap between them and leaders KCC to three points if Alex Isabirye’s outfit conjure a win against Masaka in Lugazi today.
The tax collectors have won two on the trot, Proline the unlucky recipients of 2-0 back to back defeats. But Mujib Kasule’s youthful side will, however, seek to end that rueful run when they host army side Simba in the other of the three Ecobank Super League games.
Matia Lule’s KCC, 35 points, are not in action until April 1 when they visit Masaka. And URA (29), could mount pressure on the leaders as they seek to reclaim the title they last touched in 2009. “Masaka play well and have a huge fan base,” said URA’s Isabirye. “It will be sad if they were demoted. But we have a title to chase.”
Robert Ssentongo, a substitute against Proline, is expected to make his first start since joining from Africa Lyon in Tanzania. Sam Simbwa’s second match in charge of Express ended in a one-all with Masaka at Wankulukuku last week having beaten the local council outfit 1-0 a week earlier. They now lie seventh on table with 21 points after 14 games. The former Simba, KCC and Sofapaka coach will demand more from his lads when they travel to Luzira to face 12th-placed Maroons in the club’s first game since the passing on of former club director of football and coach David Otti.
Stubborn team
Ssimbwa welcomes back midfielder Peterson Mugisha from suspension and has no injury concerns. “Maroons are a competitive and stubborn team,” he said, “But we have to pick wins.” Maroons are without Petit Wanok (arm), Dennis Rukundo (groin), Ronald Atugonza (groin), Satom Ssebuwufu (shoulder) and James Ileut (knee). Fifth placed Simba could also move to 26 points, nine behind KCC, if they can muster victory over Proline at Nakivubo. Fred Kajoba’s side beat Fire Masters 1-0 in their last game.
Proline, eighth on 21, are without Gift Ali, the midfielder nursing malaria, while captain Musa Mawanda, and Andrew Buteera face late fitness tests. Ivan Bukenya (suspension) and Yasin Mugabi (shoulder) return.
