    Crouch - Progress deserved

    Crouch: Happy days

I think Barcelona’s display the other night against Arsenal makes you think, but if we can avoid them I certainly think we can get to the final.

Peter Crouch feels Tottenham are full value for their place in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.

Spurs ensured that their European adventure continued on Wednesday as they dumped seven-time winners AC Milan out in the last-16.

A gritty display at White Hart Lane saw Harry Redknapp’s men through, with a 0-0 draw on home soil allowing them to pick up a 1-0 aggregate success.

Crouch’s winner in the first leg over in Italy proved to be the difference between the two sides and he has been quick to hail Spurs’ continental achievements this term.

He told Sky Sports: “It’s a great feeling. I’m really pleased to have gone through against a top side like Milan. We had to defend well at times, but over the course of the two legs I thought we deserved it.

“They were one of the favourites for the competition, they have so much strength in depth and experience.

“We haven’t got much experience but we have got a lot of talent and a lot of young players who can play. I thought we defended fantastically well tonight and we thoroughly deserved it.”

    Ability

Crouch admits Tottenham had to dig deep at times on Wednesday night, with Milan controlling proceedings for long periods.

He is, however, delighted to have seen Spurs show that they are more than just a side that relies heavily on their attacking stars.

“Over the course of the two legs you have probably seen it all, we can attack teams, we have got a lot of ability, but tonight we showed that we can be resilient and we can hold on and defend,” he said.

“I make no bones about it, they were good tonight and we had to grind and we had to defend. We did that as a team, right from the front. They didn’t have too many chances and that was due to our hard work.”

Crouch sees no reason why Spurs cannot go all the way in Europe this season, with the Champions League final set to be staged at Wembley on 28th May.

He added: “I think Barcelona’s display the other night against Arsenal makes you think, but if we can avoid them I certainly think we can get to the final.”
