Hon. Umar Wahab, MP for the Tolon Constituency in the northern region, has come under heavy criticism by leadership of the Nyankpala campus of the University for Development Studies branch of the Tertiary Educational Students Confederacy of the NPP, over his alleged neglect of the Nyankpala campus.

Among other criticisms, Hon. Umar Razak has been chastised for not executing a single project in the UDS Nyankpala campus since he was elected MP in 2004. “Though his attention has been drawn to a number of development challenges we are grappling with on this Nyankpala campus over the years, our MP is yet to respond to our plea.”

Konadu-Yiadom Emmanuel, President of the TESCON UDS Nyankpala campus branch raised this concern at a news conference held in Nyankpala. He revealed that the Tolon MP has since 2006 failed to honour his promise of renovating the agric faculty block and offices that were ripped off by a storm.

He added that students of the UDS Nyankpala campus who constitute about 40% of the population of the Nyankpala Township have been hard hit by water crisis.

Konadu-Yiadom further expressed their deepest worry over Hon. Umar Wahab’s inability to highlight the problems of the UDS Nyankpala campus on the floor of Parliament in spite of his awareness as an Alumnus of the campus. “The most painful aspect of our MP Hon. Umar Wahab’s lukewarm attitude towards alleviating our plight is that he is an alumnus of the UDS Nyankpala campus and the university community played a major role in his victory: but he has totally disappointed us” he fumed.

The UDS Nyankpala campus TESCON President commended former President Jerry Rawlings for establishing the University for Development Students but concluded that the university saw massive infrastructural development during the erstwhile J.A Kufuor led NPP administration.

Konadu-Yiadom called on President Mills to extend more projects to all the UDS campuses. He underscored the need for Ghanaians to vote massively for Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo in 2012 to enable him build on the Kufour legacy.
