But Kotoko got toppled from the position by Ashantigold FC after the miners recorded full points in their outstanding league game. Ashantigold FC won the delayed match against New Edubiase by a solitary goal scored by Saddat Karim at the Len Clay stadium in Obuasi. The win helped Ashantigold FC to increase their points to 29 to leapfrog Kotoko at the fifth position. Reports from Obuasi said fans of the miners were seen jubilating after the hard-fought win over New Edubiase.
Meanwhile, armed military and Police officers accompanied the New Edubiase team to Obuasi on Monday when they engaged Ashantigold FC in an outstanding league duel.
The Ashantigold/New Edubiase game was postponed due to crowd violence some weeks ago. The matter was taken to the disciplinary committee of the GFA who sanctioned a re-play.
Perhaps for fear of being attacked by hooligans at Obuasi, New Edubiase decided to make the trip in the company of Military and police officers. Luckily, no incident occurred before, during and after the game which the home team won 1-0.
