Frank Lampard has warned his Chelsea team-mates that their victory over Manchester United will account for nothing if they don’t beat Blackpool on Monday.

The Blues are currently 12 points behind United in the title race but have a game in hand on the Red Devils who they are still to face at Old Trafford.

Lampard told The Sun: “Nothing is a given, every game is tough and if we don’t get a result against Blackpool in our next game then United means nothing.

“The old clichĂ© about taking each game as it comes has never been more important for us.”

The midfielder believes the Blues showed resolve and determination after coming from a goal behind to win at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.

The England man also thinks the despite the title race not being in their hands a lot can happen between now and the end of the season.

“We showed a lot of character and spirit against United and we got the result we needed to get us back in the top four,” he said.

“We can’t get ahead of ourselves, we have to claw our way back, hope that other teams lose and who knows what can happen?”

Chelsea’s hope of back-to-back title wins was derailed over November and December where they suffered a torrid period of form, but Lampard believes they are slowly returning to their best.

He said: “It was a little bit of the old Chelsea in there.

“You can see the power in there, the commitment and the strength and we deserved that win.”
