Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has been linked with Arsenal and Manchester United in the past though the 28-year-old is not looking beyond his current contract.
Reina is the last of a Spanish contingent at Anfield, of whom Xabi Alonso, Fernando Torres and Alvaro Arbeloa have left the club, along with former boss Rafa Benitez, in recent years.
“I am not announcing my departure – far from it. I’ve said lots of times I’m very happy in England and comfortable at Liverpool,” Reina told reporters.
“But I’m not prepared to swear eternal love to anyone. That’s impossible. Any player who says that is lying.
“I can’t say much because I have a contract with Liverpool. But eternal love doesn’t exist. No one is master of his own destiny. When a player is at a club he has to give everything – that is all you can ask of him.”
Reina says his future could hinge on the outcome of the current campaign for the Reds. “It depends on how this season finishes, on how competitive we can be.
“But I would never say: ‘I’m never going,’ because even I don’t know that.
“It depends, above all, on the ambition of the owners in building a better team; hopefully, they will be generous in their efforts but we know the economic reality.”
Reina currently stands 66th in the Castrol Rankings, down from 44th a month ago. He is the 13th highest ranked goalkeeper across Europe’s five top leagues at the moment, and the 4th highest ranked in the Premier League, behind Joe Hart (47th), Ben Foster (56th) and Edwin van der Sar (60th).
