A Non-Governmental Organisation, the Human Rights Writers’ Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), has urged the Federal Government to avert violence during next month’s general elections.
It cautioned policemen and governors against colliding to frustrate the opposition by preventing them from holding campaign rallies.
HURIWA was reacting to reports that the Niger State Police Command and Ebonyi State Governor Martins Elechi banned the Gen. Muhammadu Buhari-led Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and the Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu-led All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) from holding their presidential campaign rallies in both states.
The group also criticised the Imo State Traditional Rulers’ Council for publicly cajoling the people to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate.
It warned traditional rulers to stay out of partisan politics, saying they should be fathers to all.
