Toronto FC announced Wednesday that defender Adrian Cann has left the team’s preseason training camp and will return to Toronto.

The 30-year-old Canadian internationla was not with the squad when the team left Orlando, Florida earlier today to fly to Charleston, South Carolina where they will participate in the Carolina Challenge Cup.

Cann has turned down the club’s offer of a new contract and wants to negotiate further. The team’s 2010 most valuable player’s departure from camp raises serious questions about his future in Toronto.

“We are disappointed that Adrian has decided to return home at this time,” said Toronto FC Head Coach and Technical Director Aron Winter. “Adrian is heading into the second year of a four year contract. We are currently in discussions with the League regarding the situation and are assessing the options available to us.”

Cann signed a four-year contract two games into the 2010 season, and made $65,342 last year.
