Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has won a majority of votes from Goal.com UK‘s staff to be crowned Player of the Month for February.

The Goal.com UK team put forward their views as to which player put in the best performances during the course of the month, and the Dutchman garnered twice as many votes as his nearest competitor, Daniel Sturridge.

The 27-year-old scored six goals in five games though the month of February, continuing his fine form since returning from injury. Among them were some important strikes too, including important cup levellers against Barcelona and Birmingham City.

The former Feyenoord man has been in strong form, drawing praise from several quarters.

Ex-England striker Gary Lineker said of Van Persie: “When he’s hot, he’s devastating. On their current form I’d take him above [Fernando] Torres, [Didier] Drogba and [Wayne] Rooney every day of the week.

“He’s about elegance and sharp instincts. Outside the box he’s a strong finisher and inside the area he’s got that calmness all strikers need.

“As I say, he’s probably the best striker in the Premier League at the moment.”
