Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has hinted that he may start with a 4-4-2 formation against Manchester United on Tuesday to utilise the speed of his forwards.

The two sides clash at Stamford Bridge in a game that the Blues view as a must-win if they are to push back into the Champions League slots and maintain any sort of foothold in the title race.

The west London outfit currently trail the Red Devils by 15 points having played a game less than the league leaders.

“I am not saying which shape and which players we will use against Manchester United but I think it could be a good idea to play with the 4-4-2 shape,” Ancelotti told the club’s official website.

“With that shape we can have less possession of the ball but we can use the ball more up front and use the speed of the strikers.

“In a different shape we can have more possession and more control of the game and which kind of tactic we want to use in this game depends on which of those we want.”

United skipper Nemanja Vidic had recently insisted that he remains unafraid of being pitted against striker Fernando Torres yet again, despite the forward having got the better of the Serbia international in recent seasons.

“I don’t know if Vidic is scared of Torres but Vidic is a very good defender,” Ancelotti said.

“Not just for Fernando Torres but for everyone this is a very exciting game, playing against the team at the top of the table. At this moment and every time against Manchester United they are fantastic games.”
