THE battle for the Surulere ‘2’ Federal Constituency for the House of Representatives in the April elections promises to, not only be interesting, but be a battle royal for the candidates of all the political parties, as over 5000 members of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Lagos State have defected to the Labour Party (LP).
This followed the movement of several leaders of the ACN in Surulere ‘2’ Federal Constituency, who are loyalists of a former House of Representatives aspirant, Bamidele Aderonmu to Labour Party (LP).
Following the development, several members of the ACN in the constituency have defected from the ACN along with their leader.
One of them, Mr. Celestine Ndukwe, said they took the decision of leaving the ACN with their leader to the Labour Party with the aim of helping to actualise Aderonmu’s ambition.
According to him, there is no doubt that the ACN was most unfair to Aderonmu in his quest to run on their platform.
Specifically, he wondered why somebody who won the primaries overwhelmingly would be denied the ticket.
Ndukwe added that he was happy that the entire Surulere ‘2’ constituency was resilient in their determination to ensure that Aderonmu wins on the LP platform.
He stressed that given his experience and background, there was no doubting the fact that he was the best man for the job.
According to him, the House of Representatives candidate shares the vision of the people and is determined to help actualise it.
Speaking on the development, Aderonmu said he was overwhelmed by the show of affection of the people towards him.
According to him, it was no mean feat for several thousands of people to rally round a candidate to ensure he gets their mandate.
He added that this had shown that given the right atmosphere, any candidate could win in a free and fair election in Nigeria.
He, therefore, restated his resolve to ensure that all his campaign promises on health, economic empowerment, constituency projects etc., are actualised after winning the general election if only to show appreciation for the huge support of the people for him.
