Sunderland striker Fraizer Campbell has given his manager Steve Bruce a huge boost for the closing part of the season after returning to full training following his knee injury.

Campbell suffered a knee ligament injury in September and was thought to be out for the remainder of the season but the former Manchester United man has returned to training and could be involved in their match against Arsenal at the weekend.

“Fraizer looks magnificent,” Bruce said, according to the Daily Mirror

“I have never seen anybody recover from a knee injury as quickly and when you look at the knee scar, the shape he is in and the condition he is in, absolutely fantastic.

“He sees the specialist early this week and we expect him to play in a week. He’s in great nick.”

And with Sunderland sitting in 9th position in the Premier League there was further good news for Bruce as on-loan striker Danny Welbeck is nearly ready to help fire the team towards the European places. Welbeck is due back on Wearside after spending time back at Manchester United to recover from his hamstring injury sustained in January against Aston Villa.

“Danny Welbeck [is] due from Manchester this week, it has been six weeks since he did it and he should be OK,” Bruce added.
