The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will use the Voter Register electronically compiled during the recent voter registration for the general elections in April.

Mr Kayode Idowu, spokesman of INEC chairman Attahiru Jega stated this yesterday in a statement.

He was reacting to “a widespread misconception that the Commission was discarding the Voter Register, given that it will not be using Direct Data Capture (DDC) machines for accreditation in the April elections.”

The statement said: “For purposes of the elections, INEC will use the register to be certified as required by law, following data aggregation and de-duplication processes, as well as corrections necessitated by the recently-concluded display for claims and objections.

“This certified register will be printed out for use during the April elections, just like the provisional list of registrants was printed out and displayed recently for purposes of claims and objections.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the new voter register to be used is the one compiled electronically using the DDCMs.

“INEC is making this clarification in the hope that it will assuage agitation in the public over alleged recourse by the Commission to a ‘manual register’ to the exclusion of the ‘electronic register’.
