Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe will return to training later this week after x-rays on an ankle injury sustained while training with the club in Dubai came back clear.

The striker, who’s previously missed two months this season with ankle ligament damage, was an injury concern for spurs but the club have played down the injury on their official website.

It will be a relief for manager Harry Redknapp who has five key first-team players on the sidelines, but Defoe is not expected to be risked for their visit to Wolves.

Earlier in the day Redknapp bemoaned his side’s injury problems and admitted if they were to continue to challenge for the top four in the Premier League they need to get thise players back.

“We’re trying to finish in the top four and it’s so close, but we’ve got so many players injured,” Redknapp said.

“We’ve got Tom Huddlestone, Younes Kaboul, Ledley King, Jonathan Woodgate, Gareth Bale, Rafael Van der Vaart.

“If you could pick a team of injured players it would be a fantastic line-up.”
