France coach Laurent Blanc has admitted that Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery is a valuable asset to his country, but believes the 27-year-old still has yet to reach his best form after a long string of successive injuries.

Speaking to TZ, the former Bordeaux boss discussed his reasons for delaying a recall for Ribery to the French national team.

“People need to know if Ribery has found his best form,” he said. “And then one should ask whether in sporting terms, so in terms of just football, he is indispensable for France.

“For me the answer is ‘yes’. But has he reached his top form? I’m not so sure there.”

Following a chaotic World Cup for France, Ribery was suspended from international duty for three matches. He has struggled with injuries this year and was omitted from Blanc’s squad to face Brazil earlier this month, but could soon be recalled.
