THE people of Idheze community, Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State, yesterday, handed down a 72-hour ultimatum on the Nigeria Agip Oil Company, NAOC, to meet their demands or vacate their land.
This is just as the women of the community laid siege to the company’s premises for the past eight days on a peaceful protest. Briefing newsmen on their grievance against the company, Secretary General of the community, Mr Felix Oboh decried that the company was unwilling to comply with the Mamoradum of Understanding, MOU, it entered into with the community for 2008-2011.
He alleged that “on employment, we do not have a single indigene of the community, skilled or unskilled employed by the company. They said they were going to give us micro-credit loan, but till date nothing has been done about it. They also promised to embark on a Green River Project, an agricultural scheme, but the promise has also not been met.
“Compensation in respect of oil locations, drilling sites, pipeline locations and other claims have not been settled,” he added in a statement.
