US applauds Jonathan’s plan for women

    President Goodluck Jonathan’s decision to appoint women to fill 30 per cent of his cabinet if he wins the presidential election in April drew international applause over the weekend in New York where the United Nations hosted a two-week long conference on status of women, Empowered Newswire reports.

    A leading member of the US delegation to the conference, Dr. Kerri-Ann Jones, said Jonathan’s promise was a welcome decision, adding that US President Barack Obama was toeing a similar line in the US where more women were being appointed into top public positions.
