Start your campaign now, PDP tells opposition parties

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party has called on members of the opposition parties to tell Nigerian voters what they can offer rather than dissipate energies in irrelevant issues.

Reacting to accusations by opposition parties, especially the one by the Action Congress of Nigeria that the PDP was planning, in concert with the Independent National Electoral Commission, to discard the thumb print of voters captured by the Direct Data Capture machine on Election Day for manual registers, the party said nothing could be farther from the truth.

The PDP in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Prof. Rufa’i Alkali, said PDP had no rigging plans.

The statement read, “The allegations of rigging exist solely in the nervous minds of those making them.

“These are people who would rather issue frivolous press statements than campaign for votes. How can parties possibly win elections when they do not campaign?

“PDP is the only party out there campaigning and they will be the first to challenge our victory.

“Their scare tactics are indicative of deep-seated fear of an impending defeat in April. They know that President Goodluck Jonathan is the most popular candidate.

“These media-based opposition parties have neither the experience nor popular support to pull the type of crowd Nigerians are witnessing at PDP rallies.

“They know we are the party to beat but they want to water the ground with cynicism ahead of our anticipated victory in April.

“The last time they were accusing INEC of not registering enough voters but then INEC released figures indicating a large number of registered voters, to shut their mouth.”
