UEFA will investigate instances of crowd trouble following the Champions League clash between Marseille and Manchester United on Wednesday, according to the Daily Mail.

Uefa’s disciplinary panel will hear the case on March 17 after flares were lit in contravention with competition rules and a subsequent investigation will now be carried out to ascertain what, if any, punishment is to be handed out.

It was United fans who allegedly set off the flares inside the Stade Velodrome in France, but the Marseille fans are also to come under the scrutiny of Uefa’s disciplinary committee.

The home fans’ conduct will be investigated after lasers were shone at several United players, including John O’Shea and Nani, who had a laser shone in his eyes shortly before taking a corner.

This would not be the first time that United have been on the receiving end of laser distraction in France should Marseille be found liable of the offence by the disciplinary panel. Fellow French club Lyon were fined for a similar incident involving Cristiano Ronaldo three years ago.
