Walter Mazzarri has stated that his side were unlucky to be eliminated from the Europa League at the hands of Villarreal, insisting that his team were the stronger of the two.
“Today we were unlucky,” said the Italian coach to reporters after the game. “It is not easy to come to this stadium and impose your game, but I have to congratulate my players, we played a good match.”
Mazzarri also spoke of the referee, feeling that the official had missed a penalty, and had a large impact on the outcome of the game.
“We see that it is written that we don’t go through. There was a penalty our way, and we didn’t deserve to go out.
“From a general point of view, we couldn’t have done any better, we were simply unlucky.”
