New Roma Coach Vincenzo Montella: Bologna Game A Good Chance To Overcome Mental Block

New Roma boss Vincenzo Montella is preparing to take on Bologna tonight in his first game in charge of the Giallorossi following the departure of Claudio Ranieri, and the former player believes first and foremost the squad need to overcome a mental block.

“I am fortunate to coach very strong players, but they are sensitive and have a psychological block, so I am glad we can get playing straight away,” Montella told laroma24.it.

“I strongly believe in the desire for revenge. Of course, in just two days it is difficult to set up a new system. The important thing is to have players operating in their best positions. The most important step I want to see is the ball being moved quickly from defense to attack and vice versa.”

Montella revealed that he had spoken with Ranieri since the departure of the ‘Tinkerman’ and his respect for the coach still holds strong.

“We did not go into details but I respect him a lot. I accept this with enthusiasm. It doesn’t bother me that other people are talking about [Carlo] Ancelotti, whom I respect,” the new coach said of rumors which suggest the Chelsea manager will arrive at Trigoria in the summer.
