The Deputy Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr Omane Boamah, is asking why the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is not wearing the ‘All die be die’ T’shirt that is being distributed to his supporters.
He said the flagbearer – if he believes the comments and the subsequent T-shirts bearing them are noble – should demonstrate he has faith in his comment by wearing one of the T-shirts himself. “…I would have loved to see him in the ‘All die be die’ T-shirt if he truly believes in that,” Dr Boamah insisted.
Following his infamous ‘All die be die’ comment, which attracted widespread condemnation and an equal measure of endorsement, Nana Addo’s campaign team has reportedly been printing and distributing red T-shirts with bold inscriptions: ‘Action Year? ALL DIE BE DIE’. And at least one leading member of the NPP, Madam Ursula Owusu has been spotted on television wearing one.
After addressing a press conference in the Volta Regional capital,
Ho, on Monday to react to President Atta Mills’ State of the Nation address last week – which circuitously referred to him as a war-monger – some of the T-shirts were reportedly distributed to party supporters.
Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana programme Tuesday,
Mr Omane Boamah said the fact that Nana Addo is overseeing the distribution of the T-shirts while not wearing one himself shows that “he wants to preserve himself so that when people have died for him…he can continue to achieve his childhood dream of becoming a president.”
Nana Addo noted during Monday’s press conference that he is still committed to earlier comments he made that “I would not want a single drop of a Ghanaian blood to be spilled for me to become president.”
The Deputy Minister who is convinced that the NPP flag-bearer’s ‘All die be die’ comment sought to incite his supporters to foment trouble in the upcoming 2012 election, advised Ghanaians to take particular note of the fact that the NPP flagbearer does not have their interest at heart and is willing to sacrifice their lives just to enable him become president. “…Instead of saying vote for me make I chop president…he is saying that die for me make I chop president…” Dr Boamah insisted.
