Arsenal’s promising Ghanaian midfielder, Emmanuel Frimpong is recuperating from the surgery he had to correct a cruciate anterior ligament tear, faster than expected.
Manager Arsene Wenger revealed this on Friday when he gave updates on players in the club’s treatment room. “Emmanuel is still recovering from the serious knee injury he suffered at the start of the season. He is coming along well for a guy who has a cruciate,” said Arsene Wenger. “You count eight months and it is now nearly seven. He is close to running and in one month he should start to play in training.”
Club doctor Gary O’Driscoll also told the media in England that Frimpong has recovered well and though he does not feel pains in the knee again, he will still have to be observed so as to avert any setback in his recuperation.
Frimpong who recently told the English tabloids that he has decided to switch his allegiance to Ghana, sustained the injury while playing in a pre-season friendly for Arsenal against Legia Warsaw on August 07, 2010. He was highly-rated by the French gaffer who pegged him at the same level with Jack Wilshere to help the club win trophies this season. “At the start of the season I was not convinced that Wilshere and Frimpong could be central midfielders, defensively. There is a little bit more competition than we expected there to be.
We were considering even maybe going on the market for a midfielder. We will not do that now.” Wenger said of Frimpong and Jack Wilshere last season.
Emmanuel Frimpong himself has spoken about his frustration after the career-threatening injury which seems to have hampered his development.
“This season would have been big for me because the team is steeped in success and it was where I would have honed my confidence, but notwithstanding that I will still recover from injury to probably become a better player,” the 19-year-old said on his twitter page.
