Angry foot soldiers of the ruling National Democratic Congress on Thursday February 17, attacked ushers, waitresses and waiters attached to the nation’s Parliament after they were prevented from taking over snacks that had been prepared for the lawmakers.
MPs had lined up to be served various non-alcoholic drinks and meals when the foot soldiers also joined the queue, seeking to take their share of the assortment of snacks on display.
But, after waiting patiently in the rather long queue for some time, the hungry foot soldiers were told they could not benefit from the delicious and appetizing snacks on display.
This was after President Mills had delivered his third State of the Nation Address to Parliament. The angry foot soldiers rained verbal attacks on the waiters and waitresses who were engaged to serve dignitaries and MPs.
According to some of the foot soldiers, they had escorted their MPs to Parliament so they equally deserve to be served. Several of them angrily left the scene in disappointment. “We voted for the MPs to come to Parliament. So how can you stop us from eating if we want to? Now there is a lot of food and they are telling us the food is finished so we should go away” they lamented.
The foot soldiers, who sought to authenticate their identities as members of the NDC for which reason they deserved to be served, showed their NDC membership cards to Citi News’ Parliamentary Correspondent, Richard Sky. It took the intervention of some National Security personnel to restore calm at the Parliamentary cafeteria.
