The General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has challenged the opposition New Patriotic Party to provide documentary proof that President Mills ever said that Ghana risks becoming another Kenya if he did not win the 2008 general elections.
Speaking at a just ended NDC Youth workshop, Mr. Asiedu Nketia chided the NPP for what he says was vile propaganda to justify Nana Akufo-Addo’s “all die be die” comment, which has been condemned by the NDC as well as a section of Ghanaians.
He explained that at no point in time did then candidate Mills ever say that Ghana will turn out like Kenya if the NDC did not win the elections.
“Once upon a time, they planted totally false information that NDC and Professor Mills have sent a delegation to Kenya to learn about power sharing. So when we tried to respond to that and said we were not interested in power sharing and that we didn’t want Ghana to be like Kenya so we were going to win the elections and we wanted the incumbent to handover and not to stay in power thinking that NDC was going in for power sharing”.
“The following morning, they used their pliable sections of the press, to create the impression that Professor Mills says that Ghana is going to turn into Kenya. And they propagated this thing and their own people believed it so much so that, Akufo-Addo is now talking recklessly and referring to that statement. Let them come out and tell us where and when Professor Mills said that”
“We still have copies of that statement at that time, and there was no where Professor Mills said that” he insisted.
