Two Police officers, who were grabbed on Tuesday February 8 for attacking and robbing a businessman in Accra of his money, will soon face criminal charges at the courts.
Constable Edward Opoku of the Achimota terminal Police and Lance Corporal R.Q. Addison, were arrested at Oblogo in Accra after they allegedly robbed their victim of Gh¢3,700 at North Kaneshie.
The suspects have since been in police custody. Two other suspects, believed to be part of the gang of four who attacked the businessman, are on the run. Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Supt. Kwesi Ofori, told Citi News the two suspects are being processed for court, whiles a serious manhunt has begun for the two on the run.
Supt. Kwesi Ofori said Constable Edward Opoku is already on the police wanted list for his role in a robbery attack that sent his accomplices to jail for twenty years each.
The Ghana Police Service has been persistently lambasted over unethical conduct by some of its personnel. In the last few years, several police officers have been put before court and convicted for various criminal offences, including armed robbery.
Supt. Ofori told Citi News the Police Command is determined to eliminate bad nuts within the Service. “Last year for instance, 50 policemen were dismissed from the service. Those that bordered on criminality were also put before court. So we are assuring the public that we are doing everything possible to put up a credible police force. We are working towards total image redemption and this exercise will continue” he assured.
