An Accra-based legal practitioner, Kwame Akuffo, says ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas needs to be highly commend for executing a perfect undercover work by exposing the nefarious activities by some nation wreckers at the Tema port.
He has, however, expressed shock that “only eleven people have been exposed” in the video recording and argues that if indeed Anas did spend 124 days in conducting the investigation, then someone tampered with the video tape by editing some portions in order to hide other culprits.
Lawyer Akuffo also believes it was a wrong move for the Anas’ investigative works to have been “played on our national television” and watched by many Ghanaians before a possible trial in court of the culprits commences.
To him, this might “incite public affection against the culprits, invoke prejudice, and also lead to a situation where the culprits would not receive a fair trial.”
Playing the devil’s advocate for the perpetrators caught on video in the Anas’ exposé, Lawyer Kwame Akufo said the important question that arises for public discourse is “whether the tape was edited or skewed in a manner to expose only eleven culprits.”
He was of the strong opinion that it was “impossible” for only eleven people to be captured in a recording spanning some one hundred and twenty four days.
