ghana policeA gang of confidence tricksters led by one Abubakari Mohammed Rabiu, who claims to be a member of the Confiscated Vehicle Allocation Committee in the office of the President, are on a vehicle seizure exercise in Tamale.
Painstaking investigations conducted by Citi News revealed that Abubakari Mohammed Rabiu has visited some health institutions including the Tamale Community Health Nursing Training College and Tamale School of Hygiene and attempted to confiscate some of their vehicles and motorbikes.
He is reported to have stormed the premises of the Tamale Community Health Nursing Training College where he claimed he was on an official assignment from the Office of the President.
He instructed the school authorities to surrender the keys to two vehicles and four motorbikes.
The vehicles and motorbikes in question comprise a Toyota mini bus with registration number GV 1250 D, an Urvan bus with registration number GV 1069 D and four AG Yamaha motorbikes with registration numbers GV 1245 E, GV 1249 E, GV 1250 E and GV 1257 E.
It took Mr. Mohammed Fuseini, a Chief Trainer of Motorbike riding at the Community Health Nursing Training School, to halt the exercise.
According to Mr. Mohammed Fuseini, the said motorbikes were auctioned to some of the staff who applied for them during an auction sale in 2010 whereas the Toyota and Urvan buses were running the school’s errands. He said it was communicated to Abubakari Mohammed Rabiu but he insisted that he was authorized as a member of the Confiscated Vehicle Allocation Committee in the office of the President to retrieve and re-auction them to NDC party foot soldiers.
The gang proceeded to the Tamale School of Hygiene and attempted to confiscate a mini bus.
Mr. Mohammed Saani, the school’s Accountant told Abubakari Mohammed Rabiu to produce a cover note from the Ministry of Health before the school authority could meet his demand.
The Tamale School of Hygiene Accountant expressed great worry over such nefarious activities and underscored the need for the office of the President to call the said Abubakari Mohammed Rabiu to order.
Citi News also gathered that Abubakari Mohammed Rabiu was one of the persons who masterminded a similar exercise carried out at the Tamale Teaching Hospital where eight unserviceable vehicles and motorbikes were seized by persons believed to be NDC foot soldiers ahead of an intended auction sale.
Attempts to reach Abubakari Mohammed Rabiu proved futile but his confidante in Tamale on grounds of anonymity told Citi News he had since left for Accra after the exercise backfired.
