The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has reconsidered its decision to charge its aspiring Members of parliament (MP) GH¢16,000 as filing fee for next year’s general elections.
The party has plans of reducing the GH¢16,000 that it recently proposed as the filing fee that eligible candidates have to pay before realizing their ambitions.
Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the presidential candidate of the party, who disclosed the pleasant news, said the party would not hesitate to reduce the amount if they received concerns from the grassroots of the party in connection with the colossal amount.
The 2012 presidential candidate of the NPP and the party’s National Chairman, Jake Obestebi-Lamptey, are currently on a nationwide tour, aimed at helping the party to select its parliamentary candidates without any troubles.
The NPP bigwigs are currently in the Ashanti region meeting all the 39 constituencies. Nana Akufo-Addo said if the NPP faithful complained to them that he MPs’ filing fees was too big during the tour of the country, the party would reconsider its stance. “If we gather that the amount being charged the MP aspirants is too big, we will inform the steering committee and the national executives of the party to do something about it.”
