Some branch Chairmen of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Assin South constituency calling themselves ‘the concerned NDC executives’ say the party is headed for defeat in 2012 if certain measures are not put in place.
According to them, the ruling party has totally forgotten its past and is not even organizing meetings to strategize towards the upcoming elections.
They added that money cannot buy votes hence the need for the NDC re-organize itself and unite.
They made this known at a press conference at Assin Manso on Monday to express their dissatisfaction with the way the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area, Sabina Appiah-Kubi was instigating some branch chairmen to pass a vote-of-no confidence on the area’s constituency executives.
Spokesperson for the group, Kwaku Affikorah alias Toss said Mrs. Appiah-Kubi has been playing divide and rule tactics because she knows she is not well performing. He alleged that the DCE sponsored a meeting organized last Friday by four branch chairmen namely Michael Inkoom, James Danso, John Agyensem, all from Nyankumasi and Ekow Kakraba from Asamankese.
The meeting purported to spearhead the removal of the constituency executives was attended by about 40 out of the 91 branch chairmen.
This, they claimed nearly turned bloody since the branch chairmen insisted the meeting was illegal and that the party’s constitution did not allow people to hold meetings to remove an executive from office.
They bemoaned the situation whereby the DCE has refused to release funds to the executives for party activities or to hold meetings, adding they always had to contribute to buy sachet water and other things prior to meetings. “We are not feeling the power because the party does not treat us like we have any authority even though we toiled for the party’s victory,” they stated.
They claimed the economic hardship under their own government was awful since they were still jobless and nothing seemed to be changing for them. They appealed to the NDC regional and national executives to call the DCE to order to enable party foot soldiers widen their support base in the constituency and unseat the NPP.
When contacted, the DCE refuted the allegations.
Mrs. Appiah-Kubi said they were one family fighting a common goal and that even if there was a problem in the party, she cannot disclose it.
She promised to ensure that all problems were solved amicably within the party to enable them win the 2012 elections. “Even siblings fight sometimes but that should not give people the room to level all kinds of allegations against me,” she said.
