Ghana midfielder Andre Ayew is hoping his Marseille team-mate Mathieu Valbuena will return to the champions’ line-up soon after injuring the France international in training.
Ayew made the call after his training-ground tackle ruled the France forward out for up to six weeks.
Valbuena suffered medial ligament damage to his left knee after the pair clashed last Saturday.
The 21-year-old Ghana international said: “I hope that Mathieu will return soon. We need him. It’s hard for him but it’s tough for the entire squad [without him].”
Marseille coach Didier Deschamps – whose fifth-placed side visit second-bottom Monaco on Sunday.
He has absolved Ayew of any blame, telling the club’s official website: “There was no excessive gesture on the part of Andre. On contact, the foot got stuck – it can happen.”
