This is an open letter from the Foot-Soldiers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings; First Vice-Chairman of the great National Democratic Congress, President of the 31st December Women’s Movement and the Former First Lady of the Republic of Ghana.
Dear Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings,
For almost seven months we have been pleading with you and asking you to stand as the flag bearer for the NDC party in 2012. Even though we have not directly heard from you officially, we know the calls of our members [to you] will not fall on deaf ears.
For two years, President Mills and his allies have done all that they can to destroy the NDC by corrupting the very fabric of the seat of government. The saddest part of what the NDC is going through, is the total neglect by President Mills, the Ahwois, the Osu Castle boys and the District Assemblies pretending that President Mills did not stand on the ticket of the NDC.
Is this the best reward and the thanks that President Mills can give to the NDC Founder and members of the NDC party especially the foot-soldiers? We will not rest until you take up the responsibility that you know and we know is on your shoulders. We need you as our leader. To bring jobs to the jobless and hope to those without hope for the majority of Ghanaians to see light at the end of the dark tunnel we have travelled through for ten years.
No one can tell us that you cannot lead Ghana more efficiently than what we have experienced in ten years.
You have the experience and the ability to return Ghana to the level of progressive, nationwide economic and social development we had reached by 2000. You have the determination, selflessness and sheer love for mother Ghana to continue on this road.
The zeal you have always had for women’s right can be judged by all Ghanaians through your transformation of the image and confidence of the Ghanaian woman into what we see today.
Your ability to raise funds for Ghana while helping to improve social infrastructure,
health and education, skill training, agriculture, afforestation, environmental protection, the dynamic role you played in the creation and continuous growth in the great NDC.
All these and more of your attributes can be listed at another time but in this letter, we want to make it clear to you that you should listen to the poor, wailing of families in agony, the sadness in the voices and faces of the young, the assurance you will bring to women and children.
BECOME OUR HOPE, OUR CANDIDATE, OUR FLAG BEARER and indeed OUR PRESIDENT in 2012.
This letter is not just a plea; it is also a warning to force you to accept it to truly save mother Ghana as you would do to save a dying child. We believe and hope that when you have read this, the consideration will be positive.
Those who say “it is not for a woman”, do you not see how much our country depends on the skill, intelligence and strength of our women? Do you not see what is happening in international politics? How women are making history by making a difference in the highest position of presidency?
The question we ask is can you run Ghana efficiently? The answer is YES!!
Do you have the experience? The answer is YES!!
Do you have the ability? The answer is YES!!
Do you have the dedication, the nationalism, the passion to make a difference in all our lives?
The answer is YES!!
Can you administer a better government and improve Ghana into a middle income country? The answer is YES, we only have to look at all your contributions during 2000, and before.
We know that our Founder (President Rawlings) supports you. We support you, the whole of Ghana supports you. Do not let him down.
DO NOT LET US DOWN.
WE BELIEVE IN YOU AS YOU BELIEVE IN GHANA.
We await your response urgently Nana Konadu to avoid any further action.
