Dr. Hannah Louisa Bisiw, Deputy Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing has said that she owes Ghanaians no explanation on how she managed to put up two luxurious mansions with just two years inside the four-year term of her National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
The Deputy Minister refused to comment on the front page story carried by the searchlight newspaper yesterday, regarding the two mansions she has managed to put up within a space of about nine months.
Speaking on Pink FM, a local radio station at Kasoa in the Central Region, the Deputy Minister decided not to give specific answers to the questions posed to her by the host of the ‘Oman Pa Kasa’ programme, Awudu Alhassan.
Instead, Dr. Bissiw chose to attack the integrity of the Editor In Chief of the newspaper, Mr. Kenneth Agyei Kuranchie and his staff. “… Excuse my language this morning, The Daily Searchlight is one of the newspapers in this country that I don’t give credence to. If they have decided to publish a story about me, it is their own prerogative, but I’m not answerable to Ken Kuranchie or his Daily Searchlight,” she declared.
When the host of the programme prompted her attention to the fact that, as at the time he was speaking to her on radio, the matter was beyond The Daily Searchlight and that other Ghanaians were interested, she said, “My brother, it is out of respect that I’m speaking to you this morning, other than that I would not even commented on a story carried by The Daily Searchlight newspaper – If they say I have put up two mansions, fine! I thank God but I’m not ready to talk about it.”
She, however, confirmed that this reporter called her on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 to ask her about how she managed to put up those magnificent edifices within a short period. It is also on record that, that was not the first time she was contacted to comment on her project. On September 15, 2010, Dr. Louisa Bissiw declined talking to this reporter, with the excuse that “I’ve never met you personally”. She then invited this reporter to her office the following week because she was working in Koforidua, in the Eastern Region.
Interestingly, the Deputy Minister who claimed to be working in the Eastern Region and would be available in Accra the following week was spotted on Metro TV’s “Good Morning Ghana” the following day (Thursday, September 16, 2010).
As if that was not enough, even before this reporter could meet her on the agreed date, Dr. Hannah Louisa Bissiw proceeded to grant The Informer Newspaper an interview that same day (Wednesday, September 23, 2010) on the same subject for the pro NDC paper to counter the story, which was yet to be published by The Daily Searchlight.
