German born Ghanaian footballer, Phil Ofosu-Ayeh (German name Phil Schluter) who plies his trade with Regionalliga side SV Wilhelmshaven has shown great desire to play for Ghana’s Black Satellites despite pressure from German officials to feature for their youth side.
The 1.83m tall attacking midfielder has been impressive for his club this season, scoring 6 goals. The 19 year old player caught the eye of German officials as early as age 4 when he mesmerized his opponents during their community games and has been monitored until date by Shalke 04 officials who are hell bent on adding him to their team.
But Ofosu-Ayeh has made clear his desire to play for Ghana and not Germany though a lot of moves are being made by German officials to frustrate that dream.
“I want to play for my father’s country and that is Ghana and nothing else, I have watched them several times and that is where my heart belongs…I know I have what it takes to fit into their team whenever I am invited,” he stated.
Born to a Ghanaian father, Nana Kojo Ofosu-Ayeh and German mother, Manuela Schlutter, the 1.83 meter tall player has a special feature in adapting to every role on the field as a utility material. Phil Ofosu-Ayeh is cast in the mould of Kevin-Prince Boateng who coincidentally is also half Ghanaian, half German and their style of play does not differ in any way.
Unlike Kevin Boateng who opted to play for Ghana after featuring for the German Under 17 team, Ofosu-Ayeh is shrugging off pressure from Germany in favour of the national under 20 team of Ghana the Black Satellites who will be making their defence of the Cup of Nations trophy in Libya in March 2011.
