Schalke have given up on attempts to extend Jefferson Farfan’s stay at the Veltins-Arena, and allegedly will sell the winger in January if a sufficient bid is made for his services.
The Gelsenkirchen outfit previously offered the Peru international a deal to 2014 worth €6 million per year, more than double his current annual wage of €2.8m, according to a report from Bild.
However, Farfan was hesitant to accept the club’s proposal, claiming interest from top clubs around Europe. He was previously expected to enter negotiations with Schalke in January, but now the club have allegedly grown weary, and will reportedly let him leave in January for €7m.
Inter have supposedly re-ignited interest in signing the 27-year-old, whose current deal is set to expire in the summer of 2012. However, it remains unclear as to whether the Italian giants will make a bid in January or wait until season’s end.
Farfan is currently rehabilitating a knee injury, but is expected to be fit before the Bundesliga resumes competition in mid-January.
