Liverpool are bracing themselves for striker Luis Suarez to have his suspension increased to 10 games by the FA, according to reports.
The Daily Mirror claims that the governing body, angered by the club’s reaction to its decision to ban the Uruguay international for eight games for racial abuse, is set to increase the punishment by one game if the Reds try to appeal.
Such a decision, coupled with the one-match ban and £20,000 fine incurred by Suarez for making an obscene hand gesture at Fulham fans earlier this month, would take the sanction into double figures.
The forward will begin serving his suspension by missing the clash with Newcastle on Friday, with the club still adamantly defending their man.
Suarez was found guilty earlier in December of racially abusing Manchester United’s Patrice Evra during a Premier League game, with the written details of the case to be published imminently, at which point Liverpool would have two weeks to appeal.
