Ajax Cape Town defender Nazeer Allie has admitted that his Bafana Bafana call up and trip to train with Ajax Amsterdam came as a surprise to him.
Allie and three other teammates were surprised by coach Maarten Stekelenburg when he announced four names that will be making a trip to Amsterdam for a training stint with Ajax Amsterdam.
They are; Allie, George Maluleka, Khama Billiat and Thato Mokeke.
At the same time as this announcement, Allie and Maluleka were also selected by Pitso Mosimane as part of his Bafana Bafan squad to play in the three friendly games in January.
“It was obviously shocking and a huge surprise for me to receive such news. Firstly I didn’t know of the trip to Amsterdam until the last game against Black Leopards,” Allie told MTNFootball.com.
“And the Bafana call up was a further shock concerning the number of great defenders we already have in the national team.”
Allie went on to say that all he needs to do now is work hard in the camp in order to get a chance to play.
“All I need to do now is continue with the same work rate I’ve put in for Ajax and fight for a place in the line-up. I’m happy for George (Maluleka) and I’m happy for the other two guys that are going with to Amsterdam.”
On his new year’s resolution, the Urban Warriors vice-captain said the first priority will be to do well with Bafana and then the Amsterdam trip.
“Well that’s a tough one, but firstly I would like to do well in camp with the national team,” he says.
“Now that I’ve earned a trial, I’d want to make the most of it by making it big there. I also hope for Ajax CT to improve our current log position and challenge for honours.”
