Gareth Bale suggested Tottenham have heaped pressure on their top four rivals following his match-winning brace against Norwich City on Tuesday night.
Harry Redknapp’s side are now four points ahead of fourth-placed Chelsea and have a game in hand as they chase the two Manchester clubs’ seven-point lead.
Bale noted Spurs had capitalised on results elsewhere at Carrow Road, after Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool were all held to draws.
“It was a great weekend for us personally,” Bale told Sky Sports.
“The gaffer said before the game that a lot of results have gone for us this weekend and this is a big opportunity to take advantage of that.
“We did that tonight to put pressure on the teams below us and above us.”
Tottenham’s win came courtesy of two strikes from their Welsh winger as they turned possession and chances into goals in the second half.
Spurs enjoyed 60 per cent of possession at Carrow Road and at times looked unplayable with the roaming Bale and Rafael van der Vaart able to link with Emmanuel Adebayor.
Overall the north London outfit had 20 efforts at goal and Bale believed it was just a matter of time until one broke the half-time deadlock.
“We spoke at half time that as long as we’re creating chances that’s the main thing,” Bale added.
“We’ve been scoring a lot of goals this season so we were confident we would get one whoever it fell to and lucky enough it was me.
“You have to keep grinding out chances and hopefully one will come for you and it did and then I managed to get another one after.
“We try and be patient and we know we will create a lot of chances with the players we’ve got and we were patient tonight and got the goals to win the game.”
As the club look to build on an impressive recent patch of form – they have won 38 points from a possible 45 since the opening losses to the two Manchester clubs – Champions League qualification remains the ultimate aim for the season.
“Our main objective was to get in the Champions League at the start of the season – that’s still our main objective and we’ll keep taking each game as it comes,” Bale said.
“We know we’re playing well and we just can’t afford to slip up at any time because we know the teams around us will be there to pounce.”

Redknapp’s side travel to the Liberty Stadium to face Swansea before a run of four home games against West Brom, Cheltenham (in the FA Cup), Everton and Wolves before a potentially crucial trip to the Etihad to face current league leaders Manchester City.
