Three men killed a couple and also shot and wounded their son in Burbreez, Tongaat on Thursday morning, KwaZulu Natal police said.
“Prominent businessman Balaram Reddy, 56, and his wife Maliga Reddy, 52, were shot dead while asleep in bed,” Colonel Jay Naicker said.
Their son Nivashin Reddy, 27, was shot in the left lower back and stabbed several times.
He is in a serious, but stable condition in hospital.
“It is alleged that Balaram, Maliga and Nivashin, were asleep in their home when three unknown armed men forced their way in through the back door and attacked them.”
Other family members who were on the premises were not attacked.
“The motive for the attack and whether or not anything was stolen from the premises is yet to be established.”
