Borrusia Dortmund were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Kaiserslautern and missed out on an opportunity to spend some time at the top of the Bundesliga standings.
Shinji Kagawa was first on the score sheet to put the hosts ahead in the 26th minute, but Olcay Sahan equalized to bring the score to 1 – 1 for Kaiserslautern in the 60th minute.
Dortmund are now equal on points with Schalke (31 points) but are placed second on the standings courtesy of a better goal difference.
Lautern were the first to threaten the host with Dorge Kouemaha given an opening but his shot was blocked by a defender inside the first five minute. That was after Pierre De Wit also got in a strike in the 1st minute, it missed the target, however.
In the 11th minute, Florian Dick’s promising attempt was well dealt with by Weidenfeller.
In the 27th minute, Kevin Großkreutz architected Shinji Kagawa for Dortmund’s opening. This was BVB’s first real chance of the game and they made good use of it.
After this goal, Dortmund looked live again and created waves of scoring opportunities but were all squandered.
Just before half-time, Kouemaha sent a firing alert to the Dortmund defence but it went off target.
At half-time the home side led 1-0.
In the second half Dortmund looked blazing and created at least three chances inside the first five minutes of the second half, but all resulted in nothing.’
Kaiserslautern took the stage from that moment, with Sahan breaking free at Signal Iduna Park. But his strike went wide off the post in the 53rd minute.
In the 60th minute, Olcay Sahan equalized to bring the score to 1 – 1 for Lautern.
With time against the home team, Jurgen Klopp brought in wonder kid, Mario Gotze as a second half substitute. Gotze was brought in for Blaszczykowski.
Gotze did manage to sprinkle some life into the Dortmund game and went close to scoring when his effort came off the woodwork in the 83rd minute.
But time was against the hosts as Kaiserslautern managed to hold on to the 1-1 draw.
