Bardheere — Anti-aircraft artillery was fired on fighter planes in southern Somalia by Al Shabaab group on Friday, Radio Garowe reports.
The fighter planes bombed the Al Shabaab-controlled town of Bardhere, an agricultural town located about 400km west of Mogadishu and is a key area in southern Somalia.
Al Shabaab fighters fired on the warplanes using anti-aircraft artillery. There were no reports of any casualties and it remained unclear who bombed Bardhere town.
On Thursday, fighter planes bombed Bardhere town, which resulted in a Red Crescent feeding center being destroyed, according to local sources. The center was empty, the sources added.
It was unclear who carried out the attack.
At least one person was killed in the Thursday bombings. Witness Abdi Aden told the Associated Press that he had heard explosions and saw one man dead and three wounded persons being transported in a minivan.
The air strike comes after the Kenyan Parliament approved a plan for Kenyan troops to join a 9,000 strong African Union force (AMISOM), which is currently supporting the fragile Transitional Federal Government (TFG) of Somalia fight Al Shabaab and secure Mogadishu and southern parts of Somalia.
