Captain of 2011 Federation Cup winners Heartland Chinedu Efugh has lamented the failure of former club Enugu Rangers to end a 30-year trophy drought after they crashed out in the semi-final of sub-regional WAFU Cup.

Rangers were beaten Friday in Lome, Togo, by home team Dyto 3-1 on penalties after final scores were tied at 1-1. They will now take on Horoya of Guinea in the third-placed match on Sunday.

Free-scoring central defender Efugh said he expected a lot more from the ‘Flying Antelopes’ this year.

“This is very sad. Rangers lose again? What is wrong with this club? This was a trophy they had all to win,” he told MTNFootball.com

“Rangers have been very good this season especially in the WAFU Cup and I can’t just come to terms how they blew this great opportunity to win a trophy for the club’s long-suffering fans. It is very painful.

“Since I read the story, I have never been myself. I really wanted my former team mates to win this one because they really deserved to be crowned champions of West Africa.

“I just hope that this does not disturb their plans for the coming season”, added the player known as ‘Chicago’ by his admirers.
