Cairo — The security campaign against civil society organizations, especially human rights organization, has begun today, aiming to intimidate activists and rights advocates, gag their mouths, and freeze their activities in support of human rights and against repression and torture.

Today, some police officers in military uniforms bearing the emblem of Commandos and men who claimed to be public prosecution personnel stormed the Arab Center for the Independence of the Judiciary and the Legal Profession (ACIJLP). All people present were held inside the center and prevented from exiting. Moreover, the files, documents, and computers were seized. There are even scattered news and talk about raiding 18 other organizations, among of which rights centers and international organizations.

“Mubarak’s regime did not dare to undertake such practices prior to the uprising. There is a systematic campaign against these organizations, which it was prepared for in advance, while the media was paving the way for it a long time ago. The goal of this campaign is clear to everyone, which is gagging us from exposing the violations and oppressive practices which are still being committed until this moment” said ANHRI.
