A police officer has shot his girlfriend dead before committing suicide near White River in Mpumalanga, police said on Friday.
Sergeant Andries Motau, 36, shot Nelisiwe Mbuyane several times outside her home in Kabokweni on Thursday afternoon, Lt-Col Leonard Hlathi said.
He then committed suicide by turning the gun on himself. Both died on the scene.
The 30-year-old Mbuyane was a nurse at the Bhuga clinic near White River.
“She had opened a case of intimidation and applied for a protection order against Motau shortly before the incident,” Hlathi said.
Motau was stationed at the Kanyamazane police station. – Sapa
