Al Wasl coach Diego Maradona has been fined €1,900 by the United Arab Emirates Football Association for verbally abusing Al Ain’s Cosmin Olaroiu.

A disciplinary committee within the organisation ruled against the Argentine, after he expressed his contempt at the manner of Al Ain’s celebrations following their 1-0 victory over his team in November.

Maradona, 51, called his opposite number “rude”, before adding “he should learn some manners”.

Olaroiu responded to the criticism with a number of jibes, using Maradona’s much-publicised use of illegal substances against him while also poking fun at his dress sense.

“Maradona doesn’t always have a clear mind because of his life. I don’t take drugs. My life is clear. I don’t do anything … Who is Maradona as a coach?,” the Romanian trainer said, according to The Guardian.

“He should respect his work and should never come to matches wearing short pants.”

In his time in the UAE, Maradona has criticised referees for being biased against Al Wasl, as well as kicking a supporter who intruded on a photo opportunity.
