Businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome has asked the High Court in Accra to slap a sum of GH¢1 million in damages on the Member of Parliament for Assin North, Ken Agyapong for defamation.

Woyome also wants an order of perpetual injunction restraining Ken Agyapong, also a businessman, from further publishing the said defamatory words.

In a writ of summons dated December 14, 2011, Woyome – a businessman, financial engineer and a former Deputy Consul of Austria claims comments and publications Ken Agyapong made of him are defamatory.

He says Kennedy, between December 5 and 13 this year and on a number of media platforms; TV and radio, “deliberately referred to and called the plaintiff in the Akan language and in English a Crook and a Conman and a swindler robbing the state in broad daylight and that he will expose plaintiff…”

According to Woyome, who said the defamatory claims were made without any provocation, Kennedy Agyapong also created the impression that he Woyome had conspired with the Attorney General, when he claimed falsely that “for no work done the Attorney General failed to appear in court and the court also granted Woyome an amount of GH¢41,000,000.”

Woyome says he is not a criminal or a crook or conman and has not been convicted by any court of law anywhere, including Ghana and that Ken Agyapong made the comments out of “malice to injure his hard earned credibility and respect among the generality of Ghanaians and the international community.”
